WIPJam @ CTIA Wireless - A Day for Developers
Thursday, March 24, 2011
South Hall S330 Room C&D
Orange County Convention Center
Orlando, Florida
Come join us for a great day of networking and knowledge sharing on Thursday, March 24. We're focusing on something that's pretty important for mobile developers: how to make money! App stores are getting more and more competitive and it's getting harder and harder to build a business around low-priced apps, so come learn about other opportunities and markets that exist.
We will be taking a close look at ways for developers to build their businesses other than 99 cents at a time, including topics like:
- Enterprise development -- getting started from the ground up, winning enterprise deals, and working with large organizations.
- New product development -- there's a whole world of opportunities for mobile developers beyond consumer apps: hardware, platforms and products for other developers. How can you take advantage of them?
- Business users -- check out the selling prices of business-focused apps; many of them go for 10x-50x the average consumer app, and others are able to charge hefty subscription fees. What's the key to cracking this market and cranking up your margins?
- International markets -- there's a whole world of mobile users out there begging for content and apps. How do you reach them?
Registration is open! Every WIPJam participant will receive a free exhibit pass to access CTIA and WIPJam.

As the "usual suspects" of app stores get more and more crowded, it gets harder and harder to stand out and sell your app. Come and learn about opportunities in new markets overseas, selling non-traditional products like hardware or accessories, how to get connected with companies who are hungry for apps, and more. Get your voice heard and your questions answered in our interactive UnPanel format!
UnPanelists:
- Jason Serotta, Verizon Developer Community - learn from Jason about the process of building developer enablers and offering them through an operator.
- David O'Neill, Viafo - David's company has vast experience building mobile apps, but has shifted its strategy to a platform approach. Learn about the thinking that's led them down this path.
- Rick Orr, TabbedOut - Rick's company has a laser-like focus on a single vertical industry: restaurants and bars. Learn from him how this focus has helped grow the business, and about the challenges it has faced in integrating with existing industry-standard POS systems.
