MWC 2012 Hackathon

MWC is full of meetings, parties and lots of talking. But by Thursday, you'll be ready to do some coding, right? How about for some great prizes? Join us in the lounge at WIPJam for some great hackathon competitions with Intel, Nokia and HTC, and the chance to head home from Barcelona with something new, shiny and valuable in your luggage!

Don't worry, we're not going to lock you in a dank room for 8 hours and expect you to make the world's greatest app! We've worked with our sponsors to make the competitions manageable and fun, and you'll have a chance to get your ducks in a row well in advance of the day of the WIPJam. See below for more details on each competition, how you can get involved, and what you should do to prepare.

Best AppUp App for Windows - sponsored by Intel

Port an existing app -- or create a new one -- for the Intel AppUp center for Windows, opening up a new market on ultrabook devices for your work! Top prize for the Best AppUp App for Windows submitted at the Jam is a 1,000 euro Amazon gift card, and everyone who submits an app will be entered in a drawing for an Asus UX31E Ultrabook. Intel is hosting technical sessions on the Monday and Wednesday during MWC to get you started, and they'll also be hosting a session at 9:30am in the WIPJam as well.  You can get started ahead of time and submit your app during the competition. Get the full details here!

Best Use of the Nokia Location Platform - sponsored by Nokia

Nokia has released a bunch of new location APIs for mobile platforms and desktop web sites, and you can have three chances to win by using them in three categories: Best Mobile Web Implementation, Best Desktop Web Mashup, and Best Social and Location-Aware Web App. There will be Nokia smartphones for the winner in each category, and a few prizes available in a draw for everybody who enters. Be sure to catch the Nokia technical session at 11am during the WIPJam. Get the full details here!

OpenSense Android APIs - sponsored by HTC

HTC has some new APIs on the way for Android developers as part of its OpenSense SDK. We can't tell you exactly what they are just yet, but we can tell you that you're going to find them really exciting! HTC will be giving away new devices to the best apps that take advantage of them during the Hackathon, so if you've got an Android app, stay on your toes and pay attention! More details about the APIs will be available soon, but you'll want to attend HTC's technical presentation at 9:30am during the WIPJam to learn more.
