About Michigan
Michigan’s mobile industry is thriving with many mobile companies, new associations and initiatives that have started in the last couple of years. Detroit and Ann Arbor are the largest cities in the state with many smaller centers also showing strength in the mobile industry. A recent study by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) indicates that there are over 47,000 wireless / mobile-related jobs within the State of Michigan. Several large mobile industry companies have a presence in the state including: Google, Microsoft, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T and Motorola. Mobile Monday Michigan has chapters in Ann Arbor, Detroit and Grand Rapids with more to come . The three chapters combined have over 1,200 members. State universities are embracing mobile, with many of them offering mobile application development courses, technology incubators and receiving research grants for mobile application development.
About MTAM
The Mobile Technology Association of Michigan (MTAM) is a trade association for the mobile industry. It works with local, regional, national and global mobile industry members to facilitate their mission of growing the mobile industry within the State of Michigan, thereby generating increased entrepreneurial and enterprise-level opportunities in the mobile space and creating sustainable jobs that will aid in the state’s economic recovery. The primary function is to foster cooperation between the various factions of the mobile industry and its professional associations globally, the State of Michigan and its various entities, the investment community, the education community, and technology users to facilitate the in-state growth of the industry.
