Tell us a little bit about yourself!
My name is Wai Seto. I work in the Nokia Developer Relations team as technical marketing manager and have been in this role since 2008. Before that, I was a Nokia Technical Expert and Software Architect in the games division.
My name is Janaina Pilomia - more marketing than technical if you compare me to Seto, although I did some programming in my early days. This is my fourth WIPJam @ MWC, and I’m super excited about it!
What do you do at Nokia?
Seto: In my current role, I communicate our latest developer tools and programs to our developers who are interested in working with Nokia. My current technology focus is Mobile Web, HERE JavaScript API, and Series 40 web apps development.
Janaina: I support our local teams in their events and the many other developer outreach activities they do.
What does Nokia have in store this year at MWC?
On Monday (February 25), we’ll have an all-day App Developer Conference with a different format...

Tell us a little bit about yourself
My name is Norm Chou and I’ve been with Intel for the last 3 years. When I’m not coding or hacking things together, I love to lead an active lifestyle. I was born and raised in Oregon and enjoy indoor soccer, fly fishing, hiking and running. I’m also a huge foodie, so I’m always open to having new culinary adventures – and one of my favorite places to do this is Barcelona.
What reccomendation do you have for others in terms of food in Barcelona?
For me, one must see place in Barcelona is La Boqueria food market. It is a religious experience for foodies! So many fresh fruits and vegetables in every color of the rainbow and lots of interesting locals to talk with.
What do you do at Intel Corporation?
I joined Intel in 2010 as a Technical Marketing Engineer for the Software and Services Group. I was previously a Windows Desktop and Windows Mobile developer for 5 years. I have expertise in C/C++ and Windows native applications and I really...

As predicted, developers were in hot demand in 2012. Operators/carriers and large company developer programs held events to attract developers to their SDKs, APIs and tools. The demand for developers will continue in 2013. What will change is the type of events. Many companies will opt for several smaller developer events in various locations rather than just one large event. Their offerings will include: webinars, meetups, code fests and hackathons and they will also sponsor mobile events to connect with developers.
There will be new mobile events in 2013. Verticals and brands will enter the space in large numbers, hosting developer conferences, workshops and hackathons to encourage developers to use their APIs. Generic Mobile Events that try to be all things to all people will slowly disappear over the next few years.
The emphasis on how developers can make money
with their applications will continue in 2013. Events with this theme will remain strong. Other areas that will...

We hosted a WIPJam at the mHealth Summit, December 5, 2012 in Washington DC, a first time event for us. The Summit saw a gathering of over 4000 attendees mainly coming from the health sector were hungry for information on how to integrate mobile into their work, practices, research and organizations. WIPJam was held on the last day, and brought the mobile development perspective to the crowd.
First up was a session on Mobile 101. It was a real primer on the nuts and bolts of mobile development from how to choose a platform, tips on design and testing as well a some trends. Richard Medis from Any Presence was our speaker and totally wowed the crowd with his easy to understand and practical tips. He will definitely be invited back again!
Next up we drifted into The Cloud, along with an overview of APIs and Big Data. Ryan McQuaid from AT&T’s mHealth Platform primed us on cloud and data, while Daniel Spors from Preventice gave a super case study on their experience with...

The whole team is really excited as we start heading over to the valley this week for Google's announcment of new machines and jellybeans (I know, that was poor). We're also going to be hosting a WIP Demo Lounge (Google i/o passes not required) just across from Google i/o on Wednesday and Thursday at Jillians and we hope you'll pop by to check out some cool demos, grab some grub, and win some prizes! Just let us know you'll be coming by signing up here.
Here is some info about our sponsors and the demos they will be showing:

Get your app tested with ARO at the WIP Demo Lounge and see where it ranks. Use the report to make some simple configuration changes, and watch it climb up the leaderboard for some great prizes, and bragging rights.

Developers continue to be in hot demand as we enter 2012 with many events eager to cater to them - so many events it is becoming much harder to choose which to attend. I see operators/carriers doing more and more to attract developers to their SDKs and APIs. A couple of years ago, only a few were hosting developer events; now all are hosting at least one per year with many additional hackathons, seminars and workshops.
Much more emphasis will be placed on how developers can make money with their applications. More events with this focus will be forthcoming in 2012 and beyond. All conferences will include it as one of their conference streams if they are not dedicated the whole conference to it. Other prominent areas include: Mobile Payments, NFC and Social Media and anything to do with Apps.
Mobile World Congress will continue to attract large numbers of mobile ecosystem members including developers. GSMA really hit a home run with App Planet at MWC in 2010 and will...
