This week's carnival is brought to us by Antoine RJ Wright on his 31st birthday. Happy Birthday Antoine. As always, there are several very interesting blogs. Indigo 102 diagnoses the “i Syndrome” , taking a look at why are so many apps being developed for such a small slice of the pie .Ajit Jaokar, at Open Gardens, posts his 36 Trends and Directions in Mobile that he’s tracking. Our WIP Connector post questions if iPhone application developers will sit in a now fragmented iPhone world, or port their applications and services to other platforms. Also included is the opportunity for mobile developers to have their voices heard in an Open Letter to WAC. Be sure to add your comments. The letter along with developer comments/input will be presented to WAC as a starting point for open dialogue between WAC and developers.

These include: An App Store Analysis by Chetam Sharma, arjw pens a view to the future on Why Paypal on mobile devices may replace Credit Cards, and a guest blogger on WIP Connector, Jennifer Byrne, discussing how Verizon is Investing in Developers.

Our guest blogger this week is Jennifer Byrne, Director of Business Development and Partner Management at Verizon Wireless. Verizon Wireless is a sponsor of our WIPJam Day for Developers, taking place on March 22, 2010 at CTIA. Jennifer is leading a discussion group on Monday afternoon at WIPJam.
Verizon - Investing in Developers
Verizon is a proud sponsor of WIPJam 2010 at CTIA, and is interested
in investing in the resources and
partnerships that help developers grow their business. That is why we
are so happy to take this opportunity to announce that you can now expand your
market and reach an even larger user base through our V CAST Apps store. That’s
because V CAST Apps will soon be available on Android devices, our
fastest-growing smartphone platform. It will provide an easy, streamlined
experience for users to find and purchase apps across Android devices.
Starting March 22, you can submit your Android app concepts
for approval through the Verizon Developer Community portal....

Carnival #214 from mobiThinking is jammed backed with great blog submissions this week. Make sure to visit and check them out! Here is just a small sampling of what you will find.
Are App developers getting a raw deal from App Stores? What developers want and why by MSearchGroove’s Peggy Anne Salz considers how App Stores can provide a better service to developers, with a feedback mechanism, more say in how apps are marketed etc.
This week at Communities Dominate Brands, Tomi Ahonen turns his attention to data and how much more mobile phones tell marketers about consumers than any other media.
The interrelationship between mobile advertising and mobile payments is the subject of Raj Singh’s blog as he ponders cloud-based payment systems (such as PayPal), payment details on the device or the possibility that paid-for content providers, such as Apple’s iTunes, might want to become the next mobile wallet.

Welcome to Carnival #213! For those new to the Carnival, the intent is a weekly showcase of the best blogs on all things mobile. It is open to anyone to submit your blog – find out more here.
A bit of a slow week I think, as those of us recover from Mobile World Congress and for us here in Vancouver – Olympic GOLD Fever! I was glued to the tv watching the finals for curling and hockey; and spent some time downtown amongst the throngs of visitors from all over the world. Forgive my enthusiasm for posting a few extra Carnival type photos – thanks to my good friend Bill Lee from ACCESS for the pics!
Someone who seemed to be with no shortage of words however, is Volker Hirsch, who managed to crank out two blogs! Volker always adds big value, so both are included as must reads:
- The Joy and Cost of Freemium , provides a great insight into how premium is working in the mobile space, particularly with in-app micro payments.
- Web v Mobile Web v Apps.. Or Not? Gives a...

This week it is Martin Wilson from Indigo102’s turn to provide his take on a week in mobile. Here are some of the week’s highlights: “Location” is the topic for Ajit Jaokar of Open Gardens, who praises Nokia for going back to grass roots and believes Nokia is setting the agenda as an industry leader once again. Praise continues for Nokia as Dennis Bournique, at Wap Review, gives his views on the N900 and describes how he believes it represents the next generation of mobile browsing.
Our own Caroline Lewko interviewed industry veteran Francisco Kattan, from Alcatel Lucent, about the changing shape of mobile development. Kattan gives his views and demonstrates how Alcatel Lucent is firmly focused on supporting developers. This support is evident by their sponsorship of the WIPJam taking place February 18th at MWC App Planet.

With only 10 days to go before the WIPJam at OSIM I'm all too busy polishing my best trainers for the event to think about anything else… but making sure that the event will be as interesting and entertaining as possible to all! Call it the stress of the organizer… So in need for reassurance I gathered a few of the hot topics of mobile development today that should spice up our conversation.
Open is the new closed writes Andreas Constantinou from VisionMobile hi-lighting the fact that nowadays everyone claims to be open if not open source. But then adds that we'd better become informed shopper when it comes to openness and stop believing the "Wash whiter than snow" blanket statements coming from various open source and open projects in mobile. This is just what our first unpanel will set-out to do! With 4 representatives from various projects, Symbian Foundation, Access for Limo, Eclipse Foundation, and Motorola for OHA, joined by an operator (Eplus) and a long time open sourcer...

Well we definitely jammed at CTIA! The Jam sessions have been so well received for their ability to have all members of the mobile community come together to share information and even a few laughs. What had been missing was a way to capture the dynamism of the day, and the great information and ideas that were discussed.
Hmmm what to do. We decided to hire Visual Link to create a mural of the day – and it turned out to be way cooler than we expected! Bigger and a lots of detail. The images in this message come directly from the mural, including the picture of me (not a bad likeness!).
Check out the results and the mural by going to http://www.wipconnector.com/mobilejam/index.php.

So how accurate is the mural to what was discussed and what is happening in the industry? Let me know, or add your comments here. We'd like to ensure the information and thoughts continue to evolve and we plan to try this again at another Jam session, and revisit this first mural next year for...
